The Nora Solomon Foundation (NSF) was founded in the loving memory of Mrs. Nora Solomon (5-July-1917 to 4-December-2001), a woman whose life was a beacon of compassion, strength, and unwavering commitment to the service of humanity. Mrs. Solomon’s profound belief in the power of prayer and action continues to guide the ethos of the foundation today.
Her heartfelt prayer, which encapsulated her life’s mission, resonates deeply with the work we do at NSF:
"गरीब, मोहताज, यतीम, बेवाओ का रहबर हो... बेरोजगारों को रोज़ी अदा हो, जो बीमारी से परेशान हो उन्हें शिफा बख्शे..."
("...Take into Thy care the poor, the helpless, the orphans, and the widows... grant skills to the jobless so they may earn, grant healing to the sick and suffering...")
Born in Aligarh, India, into a humble family, Mrs. Solomon was instilled with a strong sense of empathy for the struggles of others from a young age. Throughout her life, she chose to live selflessly, dedicating her time and energy to making a difference in the lives of the marginalized. Though she did not seek the limelight, her contributions to the betterment of society were immeasurable. She took a stand against the social evils that plagued her community, including domestic violence, ill-treatment of women, and the neglect of orphans and widows.
Mrs. Solomon’s vision was broader than addressing immediate issues—she sought lasting societal change. She believed that by empowering the most vulnerable, society as a whole could rise to greater heights. This belief formed the foundation of NSF and continues to be the driving force behind our work today. The Nora Solomon Foundation is not just a tribute to Mrs. Solomon’s life but a living extension of her vision—a vision that strives to create a world of compassion, equality, and opportunity for all.
